Kahoʻokele (means "The Navigator")  The ʻUaʻu (Hawaiʻian Petrel) Plushie.  ʻUaʻu is an emdemic pelagic seabird that nests in burrows high on the volcanic slopes.  The Hawaiʻian name sounds like the call the parent birds make when returning to the nesting burrow.  Squeeze the plush to hear the call.  Navigating to and from nests at night, ʻUaʻu travel thousands of miles to forage at sea before returning weeks later, to feed a single chick.  Both adults and chicks are vulnerable to human introduced predators like cats, mongoose, rats and dogs.
